Marquette––Patrick D. Abbott,
Sr., 68, of 2353 Beaudoin Street, Apt A., Marquette, entered
eternal life Thursday morning, March 27, 2008, at his home.
Pat was born April 12, 1939, in Marquette, a son of John
“Jack” and Lucille (Lowe) Abbott. He was raised
in Big Bay and attended the Graveraet High School. Pat was
a truck driver for many years, working in Omaha, Nebraska,
for thirteen years before returning to the Marquette area
in 1968. Over the years, he was employed with Omaha Steel,
CB & QRR, Stauffer Chemical Company, Tractor Supply,
Paul Smith Paving and Don Britton Excavating. He retired
in October 2001. Pat was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed
fishing, hunting, and going to camp. He was also an enthusiastic
Detroit Red Wing Hockey and Detroit Tiger Baseball fan.
Pat was a former member of the Teamster’s Union.
Pat is survived by his wife, Barbara E. (Kunze) Abbott,
whom he met and married in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1957; a son,
Patrick D. (Diana) Abbott, Jr of Harvey; four grandchildren,
Jared and Christine Abbott both of Kent, WA, Stephanie and
Justin Abbott both of Harvey; three sisters, Cheryl (Robert)
Libick of Big Bay, Jane (Dan) Oglesby, and Joanne (Don)
Lighthill both of Omaha, NE; three brothers, Tom Abbott,
Max Abbott, and Dan (Terry) Abbott all of Big Bay; sister-in-law,
Marilyn Abbott of Marquette; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by
a son, Fred Abbott in 2004; a sister, Charlene Wirtanen;
and brothers, Robert and Wilford Abbott.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Christopher
Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 1, at 2:00 pm with Rev.
Jeff Johnson as celebrant. The family will receive relatives
and friends at a reception to be held in the church fellowship
hall following the mass. Inurnment will be made in the Powell
Township Cemetery, Big Bay. In lieu of flowers, memorials
may be directed to the family at 2353 Beaudoin Street, Apt.
A, Marquette, MI 49855.
