Marquette––Cecilia E. “Sis”
Pringle, 92, formerly of 222 S. Fifth Street, Marquette,
and currently a resident of the Norlite Nursing Center,
entered eternal life Monday morning, March 31, 2008, at
Marquette General Hospital.
Sis was born May 28, 1915 in Channing (Sagola Township),
a daughter of the late James and Emma (Duquette) Pringle,
and had been a Marquette resident since 1928.
She worked as a sales clerk at the C.F. Smith Grocery Store
in Detroit for fifteen years before returning to Marquette
to help care for her mother. Locally, she was employed as
a department manager at the former Montgomery Ward Store,
managing the Housewares Department for nine years and then
the Infants and Children’s Clothing Department for
sixteen years. Her career at Wards spanned over 25 years
and she retired in 1977, receiving a gold watch, gold pin
for 25 years of service, and recognition dinner at the Holiday
Inn in honor of her dedicated service. She was a member
of the former St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and
currently a member of St. Peter Cathedral where she participated
in the prayer chain group for many years. Sis enjoyed playing
cards and was an avid 500 player, belonging to a ladies
foursome for many years. Sis also used her vacation time
to travel with her friends, taking slides of various historic
and scenic places. She was a great lover of Detroit Tiger
Baseball during their successful years.
A loving sister, aunt, and godmother to many of her nieces
and nephews, she is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Oates
and Henrietta (Robert) Larson both of Marquette; a brother,
Mark (Thelma) Pringle of Irving, TX; sister-in-law, Rhea
Pringle of Marquette; numerous nieces and nephews, among
them a special niece, Deborah Larson of Harvey. In addition
to her parents, Sis was preceded in death by a sister Clarissa
Burdick; a brother, Everett Pringle; and brothers-in-law,
Louis Burdick and Richard Oates.
Due to the sanctuary renovation at St. Peter Cathedral,
friends may call at St. Michael Catholic Church on Thursday,
April 3, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Thursday afternoon with Rev.
Frank Ricca as celebrant. A reception for family and friends
will be held in the St. Michael Parish Center. Spring burial
will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Escorts will be Mark Pringle, Roger and James Burdick, James
Mahn, Dale B. Kamp, and James Leeman. Honorary escorts will
be Dale C. Kamp and Donald Burdick.
Special thanks to the staff and residents of the Norlite
Nursing Center for the many kindnesses extended to Sis and
her family and to the Marquette General Hospital staff for
their comforting care.
