Marquette––James A. Lancour,
69, of 2220 Fitch Avenue, Marquette, entered eternal life
Friday, February 15, 2008, at his home, in the loving care
of his family and UP Home Health and Hospice. He had been
in ill health for the past two years.
Jim was born January 28, 1939, in Marquette, a son of Lawrence
and Florence (Vadnais) Lancour and was a lifelong Marquette
resident. He was employed at the former Cliff Dow Chemical
Company and then with the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad.
Jim’s last employment was with Duquaine Refrigeration.
Jim was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with
family, especially his grandchildren. Being outdoors and
enjoying all that nature had to offer was all important
to him. In his leisure, Jim enjoyed fishing on Lake Superior
with Mike and his brother, spending time at camp with family
and friends, and volunteering his time at St. Vincent de
Paul. He also enjoyed talking on the phone with his special
friend, Dennis Burns. As Jim’s illness progressed,
he especially treasured the company of family and friends,
was able to “get his buck” last deer season,
and made several friends during hours spent at Pain Management.
He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Paula (Koski) Lancour;
his children, James (special friend, Bonnie McLaren) Lancour,
Vicky Stark Lancour, Connie (Jerry) Bell, his baby, Sherry
(James) Mattson, and Michelle Lancour who was always thought
of as a daughter; his grandchildren, Steven (Bobbi) Paddock,
Kimberly Paddock, Christopher Lancour, Katrina (Matt) Lancour,
Cody Lancour, Cory Mattson, Ashley Mattson, and Tyler Bell;
great-grandchild, Anthony Judd; his brother, Larry Lancour;
special sisters-in-law, Linda (Ed) Morrison and Joanne Lancour;
and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents,
Jim was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Lloyd Lancour;
and a sister, Barb Cass.
Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Monday,
February 18, beginning at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will
follow at 7:00 pm Monday evening in the funeral home with
Rev. Msgr. Jed Patrick officiating. Burial will be made
in the Park Cemetery.
Jim’s family would like to express special appreciation
to family and friends for their support, and to the caregivers
of UP Home Health and Hospice for the many kindnesses extended
to Jim and his family.
