My
mother raised my sister and I alone, the three of us grew here
in Marquette together. Times were pretty hard, mom was a full
time student, full time job, and of course full time mom during
the 70's and 80's. When she got me involved in sports I met
my best friend Jason Billings, we were 6 years old and it was
at that age when I also met my first father figure, baseball
and hockey coach,Chuck Billings.
I remember at a ball practice in Harvey one afternoon one
of the other fathers took a nasty swing from a little league
bat and bent a finger up real bad. It was probably one of
the sickest things i have ever seen,(fingers arn't supposed
to bend like that)so the injured dad wasn't doing so well
(shaking and stuff) daddy Chuck comes over and tells finger
dad to relax, grabbed the arm then the finger and said "gonna
count to three" Chuck got to one and pulled. We all screamed, some
ran.I'll never forget it. I thought Chuck was the stongest
man in the whole wide world.
Thanks for being there for us kids thanks for passing me on
your venison test (he said I passed because i refused to ase
A-1 or any other sauce on the tasty lunch he made for us kids)I'm
still quite honored. Many many wounderful memories.Gonna miss
you bud! All my love Lorna,Honestly you are an angel.

Husband, Grandfather, Father and friend, my dad was a man of
rare quality. To many of my friends he was more a father figure
than they had known themselves and to his many friends throughout
his life he will be remembered for his humor, his positive outlook
and his honesty. For sixteen years (half of my life) he lived
paralized and unable to enjoy the world as he once had. He loved
sports and coaching kids, going on motorcycle trips, taking
Jason and I fishing and hunting, working for the Board of Light
and Power climbing poles and working in his woodshop. He endured
more and more setbacks in his condition over his last sixteen
years but unwavered in his sense of humor , his love for his
family and friends and his positive attitude. If ever I feel
life has given me a bad shake, all I have to do is think of
my dad and all he has endured just to be here. The world lost
a good man. May his memory live within us all.

Jason, our hearts go out to you and your family in this time of your dad's passing. We never met your father but we remember how lovingly you spoke of him and how he occupied such a special place in your heart. Remember that love is the strongest power in the universe and that death cannot stop it. Love always continues. Your dad's spirit loves all of you just like always, just like you will always love him. Peace to you and your family. Your friends, Carol and Eric

Uncle Chuck. Always the Uncle to get the kids out to the ball
field and organize the game...kick ball, baseball, football,
soccer. He was the biggest kid out there. He was the Uncle that
always cheered for you, even when you fell down on the way to
first base. I will always remember my Uncle Chuck as the cool
Uncle with the Devil Tatoo, and the Mustang and the Harley,
and as I got older the Uncle that understood best what it takes
to be a real man and raise a happy family...devotion, patience,
enthusiasm and a whole boat load of faith. I'll never forget
this man and the lessons he taught me just living life the way
he did. He showed his strength as a Marine, a husband, a father
and Uncle. I can't wait to see him again, give him a hug and
play a little catch.

Both Bryan and I loved Chuck very much for the the memories of our childhood watching him coach his sons and being such a part of Marquette athletics. And also, keeping up such a great attitude in later years, he was truly a gifted and heartfelt person. Love to Lorna and family

To Lorna and Chuck's family my sincerest condolances. I grew
up with Chuck when we were kids on Bluff Street and I remember
him fondly for his sense of humor and always willing to toss
us a ball or help us with our swing when we played baseball
in the park across the the street from his house. He was a good
guy. May he rest in peace.

I
have known Chuck for over 30yrs and my wife has known him for
almost 30yrs. He shared in our wedding. Chuck was a terrific
guy. He was a kind and loving person who loved life. He never
had a negative thing to say about anyone. He enjoyed spending
time with his family and friends. I know we enjoyed the time
we spent with Chuck. Whether it was camping, playing ball, or
a get together at someones house. I often think back on the
days of playing ball with Chuck and all the tournaments. The
times at Lil Richards after the games. We shared a lot of laughs
and fun times. We always had good teams. But we did have our
off days. Chuck never got down on anyone for making an error.
It seems like he always found a way to make us laugh. Even if
we were getting our butt kicked he always said come on fellas
lets just have some fun. We are honored to have Chuck and his
family as friends in our lives. The world would be a better
place if there were more people like Chuck. There is a lot more
we could say about him but, anyone who knew him already knows
how great a person he was. He will be missed by everyone. God
Bless Chuck and his family. Our thoughts, prayers, and love
go out to you all. We'll miss you Chuck.
