Harvey––Susan Jill “Jill”
Matta, 66, of 316 Pine Street, Marquette, entered eternal
life Monday evening, January 28, 2008, at the Mather Nursing
Center, following a two year battle with cancer.
Born July 24, 1941 in Ishpeming, a daughter of Henning and
Lillian (Stille) Heij, Jill was raised in Negaunee and graduated
from the Negaunee High School in 1959. She attended the
Badger Business School in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1960
and later married her high school sweetheart, Richard Matta,
in 1961. The couple was married 27 years when he preceded
her in death in 1988. Jill was employed as a receptionist
with UPCAP, in Marquette, for two years. An avid reader,
Jill also enjoyed knitting, listening to country western
music, and treasured the time spent with her
family.
A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by four
children, Susan (Randal) Rivard of Newberry, Pamela (William)
Simmons of Cheboygan, Richard (Severine) Matta Jr and Kristin
(Franklin) Fetterhoff both of Gwinn; her grandchildren,
Ryan and Joshua Rivard, Maxwell, Neil, and Glenn Simmons,
Matthew, Mitchell, and Zachary Matta.
Services will be held at the Faith in Christ Fellowship,
145 W. Ridge Street, Marquette, on Thursday, January 31,
at 1:00 pm with Pastor Chris Kostelansky officiating. A
reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
