Clyde "Jiggs" Jago

Marquette––Clyde John “Jiggs” Jago, 80, of 220 Northwoods Road, Marquette, entered eternal life Monday evening, January 28, 2008, at home, in the comforting care of his family and the caregivers of UP Home Health and Hospice.
Born August 17, 1927, in Manistique, a son of Theodore and Erma (English) Jago, Clyde was raised in Manistique and St. Ignace. He interrupted his high school education to enlist in the US Navy, serving during World War II. Then, as a merchant mariner on the W.E. Fitzgerald, sailing on the Great Lakes, within the US Coast Guard, for a time. Years later, he served in the National Guard through the Sault Ste Marie Armory. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Clyde finished his high school requirements for graduation. For over 29 years, he was employed by the State of Michigan as a licensed psychiatric attendant nurse, working at the Newberry State Hospital and Northville State Hospital. He retired in 1984 and moved to Marquette in 1998. Clyde was a family man and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, hunting, and fishing. He was also an avid gardener. Clyde was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming and the Richard Jopling Post #44 of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, the former Sirkka “Mikki” Mykkanen, whom he married August 30, 1974; two daughters, Suzanne (Alma Potts) Jago of Brimley and Catherine (Joseph) LaBlance of Sault Ste Marie, Canada; four sons, Micheal (Rebecca) Jago, John Jago, and Kenneth (Etta Bohannon) Jago all of Newberry, and Clyde (Jan) Jago of Superior, WI; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his former wife, Rosann Brown of Newberry; a sister, Linda (Michael) McGuire of Livonia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Smith.
