Marquette––Katherine Elaine
Feldhauser, 80, of 460 W. Hewitt Avenue, Marquette, entered
eternal life Tuesday morning, December 18, 2007, at her
home.
Katherine was born April 27, 1927, in Manistique, a daughter
of Henry and Aileen (McNamara) Nelson, and was raised in
Manistique. She attended St. Francis de Sales Grade School
in Manistique, graduating from the Manistique High School.
Katherine continued her education, enrolling at Northern
Normal Teacher’s College (now NMU), receiving a Bachelor
of Science Degree with a Teaching Certificate. During this
time, she sharpened her teaching skills by teaching with
her mother at the Thompson Township School, a one room schoolhouse
in Thompson. While at college, she met her future husband,
Arthur H. Feldhauser, and the couple was married on December
29, 1951 in Manistique. The couple moved to Marquette the
following year where they established a home and raised
their family. Katherine taught at the Chocolay Township
School in Harvey, Vandenboom, Whitman, and Parkview Elementary
Schools in Marquette. While pursuing her teaching career,
she returned to Northern Michigan University and earned
a Master of Arts Degree in Education. Katherine retired
in 1986 with over 30 years of teaching experience. Katherine
was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, but had been
attending St. Christopher Catholic Church during the past
year. She was a member of St. Michael’s Altar Society,
the Michigan Education Association-Retired Chapter of Marquette
County, and the Marquette Area Retired School Personnel.
Throughout her life, Katherine had been involved with sports,
playing basketball in high school, and later belonging to
bowling leagues and the volleyball leagues at the Graveraet
School. She loved to socialize with friends and kept in
social contact with members of the DNR Retirees Association,
to which her husband had belonged. For many years, and following
her husband’s death, Katherine wintered in Texas.
She always looked forward to spending time with her coffee
group.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Dan) Adamini of Marquette;
two sons, Alan (Sue) Feldhauser of Marquette and Mark (Ann)
Feldhauser of Skandia; and her grandchildren, Laura and
Brian Feldhauser, Ellen, Abbi, and Amy Adamini. In addition
to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by her husband,
Arthur H. Feldhauser on November 4, 1999; a sister, Genevieve
Dear; and a brother, Jack Nelson.
Friends may call at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Friday,
December 21, beginning at 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian
Burial will follow at 12:00 noon with Rev. Msgr. Jed Patrick
as celebrant. A reception will be held in St. Christopher’s
fellowship hall. Burial will be made in the spring at Holy
Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed
to the St. Michael Altar Society, 401 W. Kaye Avenue, Marquette,
MI 49855.
