Kingsford––John James Tervo,
Jr., 42, of Kingsford, and former Ishpeming and Munising
resident, entered eternal life in his sleep, Tuesday, October
9, 2007, following a lengthy illness.
John was born May 4, 1965, in Munising, the son of John
James and Dorothy Mae (Romans) Tervo, Sr. He was a 1983
graduate of the Munising High School and then worked for
a time as a nurse’s aide at the former Superior Shores
Nursing Center. In 1984, he joined the Michigan National
Guard where he received training as a heavy equipment mechanic/operator,
and was honorably discharged in 1992. While residing in
the Sault, he worked as a night auditor in the hotel industry.
John worked at a variety of jobs throughout the years, most
of them seasonal due to disability. He also was involved
in volunteer work. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting,
fishing, and spending time in nature. He was a whiz at working
crossword puzzles and enjoyed playing games. John was a
gentle, kind, caring man who thought of others before himself.
Survivors include three daughters, Brittany Lindquist of
Georgia, Cynthia Kerridge of Manistique, and Tanya Manitowabi
of Sault Ste Marie; his sister, Jody Lindberg of Marquette;
three nephews, Travis, Riley, and Nicholas Lindberg; his
soul mate and companion, Linda Chapman of Kingsford; her
daughter, Jodi (Gary) Pearson; and their children, MacKenzie
Gregg and Bailey Pearson, whom he adored; several cousins;
many friends; and his special pets, Fleabag and Charlie.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in
Harvey on Tuesday, October 16, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm
Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Ben Paris, pastor, as celebrant.
A reception will follow in Fr. Gauthier Hall. Burial will
be made in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Munising, on Saturday,
October 20, at 11:00 am.
