My father, George (Bev) Whitburn, Adrian, Michigan, was Jeannette's first cousin. At 92, he last visited for a card game several years ago. Before Jeannette left Bessemer in the early years, she was a part of the weekend cardplaying at Aunt Dora's home in Bessemer with her Mother, Aunt Jennie, and Aunt Greta. As a young girl, I remember the times. I spoke with Jeannette not very long ago after my stepmother, Betty Whitburn, passed away. I passed her phone number on to my Dad who also phoned her. We both had such pleasant conversations with her. Deepest sympathy to Ruth from my Dad and from me. She was a lovely lady with remarkable accomplishments.

I
am sorry to hear that my Aunt Jeannette Bowden has passed to
the other side. We didn't have much contact over the years but
she was often in my thoughts and prayers. My father was Bert
Skinnard, her brother.

As a student, staff member and alumna, I will remember Mrs Bowden long after many NMU presidents. She truely embodied the spirit of NMU with a dedication unmatched by many. I did not know her well but knew well of her. I still remember a random act of kindness she did for me years ago and am warmed by such an elustrious career with NMU. The University was blessed to have her.

Jeannette
was my favorite and best clock repair customer. She was always
happy to see me and we always had a good visit. It got to the
point in the last few years, she could diagnose and sometimes
fix the problem her clocks had. I thought of her so often and
will really miss her and her clocks. She was a strong willed
and awesome person. I wish more people could be like her.
