MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP ––- James Martin
Liljeroos, 57, of 153 Fence Lake Road, Mansfield Township,
entered eternal life Monday morning, July 9, 2007, at his
home.
Jim was born April 17, 1950, in Marquette, a son of Lauri
A. and Anna Mae (LaTourneau) Liljeroos, and was raised in
Marquette. In 1969 he entered the US Navy, serving during
the Vietnam Era. Following his honorable discharge in 1971,
he worked at a variety of jobs in the Marquette area including
the Cliff Dow Chemical Company, Ahonen’s Lumber Mill,
the Marquette Fish Hatchery, and as caretaker at Superior
Village. For the past 25 years, Jim was employed by Donna
and the late James Rose as caretaker for their Fence Lake
Resort. Jim loved the resort, doing odd jobs, and found
it to be the ideal combination as a place of work and recreation.
At the resort, he could be a “jack of all trades”
and still find enough time to hunt, fish, and take in all
that nature had to offer. He also enjoyed shooting pool,
was an avid cribbage player, and was a great cook. He loved
his family, was good to them, and enjoyed the family gatherings
that took place over the years. Jim was a member of the
Marquette Salvation Army, and Republic’s VFW Post
and the Rabbit’s Club.
Survivors include his sister, Linda (Michael) King of Gwinn;
four brothers, Lyle Liljeroos of Gwinn, Roger and Dale (Kris)
Liljeroos both of Marquette, and Scott Liljeroos of Negaunee;
brother-in-law, David Tellefsen of Gwinn; special friends,
Donna Rose of the resort; Wendy White, and her children,
Zoe and Parker White, to whom Jim was a substitute “grandpa”,
Amy Sadler of Imlay City and her children, Teddy and Kaitlyn;
several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In
addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a
sister, Cheryl Tellefsen; brother, Lauri Allen Liljeroos;
and infant sisters, Roxanne and Violet Liljeroos.
Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Thursday,
July 12, beginning at 11:00 am. Funeral services will follow
at 1:00 pm Thursday afternoon, in the funeral home, with
Jim’s cousin, Captain Christine LaTourneau (R) and
Captain Donna Rose of the Salvation Army officiating. A
reception will be held at the Salvation Army at 2:00 pm.
