Munising––- George R. “Ray”
Morrison, 75, of 214 W. Superior Street, Munising, entered
eternal life Thursday morning, July 12, 2007, at Tendercare
Nursing Center in Munising.
Born February 22, 1932 in Munising, a son of Cornelius and
Julia (Paris) Morrison, Ray was a lifelong Munising resident.
He was a 1950 graduate of the William Mather High School,
where he earned letters and medals in track and field events.
Following graduation, he entered the US Navy, serving four
years during the Korean Conflict. On December 14, 1968 he
married the former Dawn B. (Bennett) McNally, in Munising,
and the couple began to establish their home and raise a
family. For over 35 years, Ray was employed with the Lake
Superior and Ishpeming Railroad as a conductor, retiring
in 1990 due to illness. Ray was a member of the Roderick
Prato Post of the American Legion, where he was a past post
commander. He also enjoyed being with his family, sporting
events, bowling, and collecting train and railroad memorabilia.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn B. Morrison; three daughters,
April (Larry) Heyrman and Cheryl (Paul) Heyrman both of
Munising, and Cheri Kay (Chad) Hays of Stewartville, MN;
two sons, John McNally of Munising and David (Terry) McNally
of Ellettsville, IN; his grandchildren, Lynn (Don) Edmunds,
Karla (Stephen) Combs, Scott, Steven, Peggy, and Jennifer
Heyrman, David McNally Jr, Jason, Joe, and Bridget Hays;
three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Combs, and
Ashlyn Hodges; two sisters, Lita (A.J.) Tallman of Munising
and Annie Young of Escanaba; a brother, Edward (Greta) Morrison
of Munising; and several nieces and nephews. In addition
to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by two granddaughters,
Rachael Heyrman and Natalie McNally; and his in-laws, Clifford
and Beulah Wilkes.
Honoring Ray’s request, no public services will be
held.
