Harvey––Kay Marion Schlumpf,
75, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on
April 13, 2007 at 9:30 am.
Kay was born in Durand, Wisconsin on December 1, 1931 to
Elliot and Mildred Walters. After graduating from Durand
High School in 1949, she worked in the local canning factory
and then as a waitress in the Twin Cities. Kay married her
high school sweetheart, Joseph Schlumpf, on March 26, 1951.
Joe had just enlisted in the Air Force and together they
spent the next 28 years on active duty serving at air bases
around the world. The Marquette area became their permanent
home following Joe's retirement on July 1, 1978.
Kay and Joe loved to travel, see historic places and get
to know the local
people. Some of her favorite memories were of the family
touring the Rhine River area while stationed in Wiesbaden,
Germany. She loved antiques, decorating and created numerous
works of art for family and friends.
Joseph, Kay’s husband of 55 years, passed away February
7, 2007.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Kayleen (Stephen) Swanson
of Port
Charlotte, FL; grandson Travis (Renee) Swanson of New Orleans,
LA;
granddaughter, Amber Swanson of Orlando, FL.; son, Barry
of Orlando, FL; grandson, Erik of Gwinn and granddaughter,
Kelly of Gwinn; son, Steven (Colleen) of Marquette; grandson
Shawn (Stacy) of Irvington, AL;
great-grandsons, Austin, Cody, and Alex; grandson Steven
(Tamara) Treder of St. Paul, MN; great-granddaughters, Linnea,
Micaela; great-grandson, Max; grandson Kyle Treder of Plymouth,
MI, grandson Ian Treder of Escanaba; and granddaughter,
Michelle (Errickk) Decker of Negaunee; great-grandsons,
Nolan and AJ. Kay is also survived by her sister, Betty
Ersland of Phoenix, AZ.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at
the Fassbender Funeral Home, Thursday, April 19, 2007, from
1:00 pm to 2:15 pm. Services will be held in the funeral
home at 2:15 pm Thursday afternoon with Rev. Leon Jarvis,
Marquette General Hospital chaplain, officiating. Inurnment
will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Labre
Indian School, P.O. Box 77, Ashland, MT 59004.
