Big Bay––Floyd M. “Cubby”
Savitski, 78, of County Road KD 3991, Big Bay, entered eternal
life Monday morning, April 23, 2007, at his home in the
loving care of his family.
Cubby was born April 1, 1929, in Marquette, a son of Stephen
and Edith (St. John) Savitski. He was raised in South Marquette
and attended the Marquette area schools. Cubby enlisted
in the United States Navy where he served his county for
four years. On July 7, 1950, he married the former Mary
Elaine Wilcox and the couple set about establishing their
home and raising a family in the Marquette area. Cubby worked
for the original Horrigan Oil Company as a truck driver
for over 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion
Post #44 and a member of St. Mary’s Church, Big Bay.
In his spare time Cubby enjoyed riding his four wheeler
through the woods with the “Over the Hill Gang”
and going to the casino.
Surviving are his loving wife, Mary Elaine Savitski, of
56 years; his daughter, Pat Savitski and Len Mineau of Escanaba;
his son, Michael (Jane) Savitski of Seminole, FL; two grandchildren,
Bret (Sabrina) Savitski of Panama City, FL and Eric Savitski
of Largo, FL; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Calli Savitski;
one brother, Jim Savitski of Madison, WI; two sisters, Gloria
Maki and Virginia Yshinsky both of Marquette; and several
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents;
one sister, Genieieve; and three brothers, Clifford, Majil,
and Alvin. A memorial service will be held at a later date
in St. Mary’s Church, Big Bay.
