Skandia––Barbara Jean Proffitt,
71, of 10911 US 41 South, Skandia, entered eternal life
Monday afternoon, April 23, 2007, at Marquette General Hospital.
Barb was born November 9, 1935, in Marquette, a daughter
of Telesphore K. and Mabel M. (Bigger) Pleau, and was raised
in Marquette Township. On June 23, 1956, she married Charles
James "Jim" Bouschor and they resided in Marquette
for a time before moving to Flint where they resided for
the next 26 years. In Flint, Barb was employed at Supreme
Doughnuts. The couple later purchased and operated Freddies
Donuts before moving back to Marquette in 1985. On May 29,
1989, Jim preceded Barb in death. Barb was employed locally
at the Elias Brothers Big Boy and then at the Jacobetti
Home for Veterans prior to retirement. On June 1, 2001,
she married Leslie A. Proffitt and couple established their
home in Skandia. Family was always a priority with Barb
and she and Les enjoyed the company of children and grandchildren,
while also doing some traveling, camping, bowling, and gardening
together. Barb was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic
Church in Harvey.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie; six daughters, Sherrie
(Tom) Cribbs of Herman, Kelly (John) Whiteside of Swartz
Creek, Brenda (Curtis) Taylor of Grand Haven, Karen (Roger)
Brauer of Spokane, WA, Lisa Whitney of Sawyer, and Kimberly
Greenwald of Cassopolis; two sons, Michael Bouschor of Skandia
and Kenneth Bouscher of Newberry; 24 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren;
a sister, Darlene (Paul) Koch of Sawyer; a brother, Roger
(Joy Phillips) Pleau of Harvey; and several nieces, nephews,
and cousins. In addition to her parents; and husband, Jim;
Barb was preceded in death by three sisters, Eleanor Pleau,
Sandy Spencer, and Cheryl Pleau.
Friends may call at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in
Harvey on Thursday, April 26, beginning at 11:00 am. A Mass
of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 pm Thursday afternoon
in the church with Rev. Ben Paris, pastor, as celebrant.
A reception for family and friends will follow in Fr. Gauthier
Hall. Inurnment will be made in the Negaunee Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at
Marquette General Hospital for the many kindnesses extended
to Barb and her family.
