Marquette–- Joseph Albert Michelin,
86, of 2533 Norwood Street, Marquette, entered eternal life
Tuesday morning, March 13, 2007, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home
for Veterans, where he had resided since January 19, 2007.
Joe was born June 20, 1920, in Munising, a son of John and
Hilda (Johnson) Michelin. He was a 1936 graduate of Hammond
Technical High School in Hammond, Indiana. Following graduation,
he entered the US Army, during World War II, serving from
1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945 as a Technical
Sergeant. On September 12, 1945, he married the former Bernice
R. Musolf, and together the couple established their home
and raised their family in Marquette. Joe was employed as
a painter through the local painter’s union, working
at many businesses throughout the Marquette area and Upper
Peninsula. Joe was an active outdoorsman, loved cutting
wood, going to his camp on the Chocolay River, gardening,
and woodworking. He was also a sports enthusiast, avidly
backing the Chicago Bears and Cubs. He was a member of St.
Peter Cathedral
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; three sons, John (Rita)
Michelin of Appleton, WI, William (Rosemary) Michelin of
Negaunee, and James (Sandy) Michelin of Marquette; his grandchildren,
Sunny (Tony) Duran of Germany, Erik Michelin of Negaunee,
and Johanna Michelin of Bellingham, WA; four great-grandchildren,
Justin Michelin, Marcus, Marina, and Myles Duran; a sister,
Sr. Perpetua Marie Michelin of Fond du Lac, WI; and numerous
nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents,
Joe was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Hilda;
and a sister, Ruth Hughes.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Bishop’s
Room at St. Peter Cathedral on Friday, March 16, beginning
at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
at 10:30 am Friday morning in the Cathedral with Rev. Frank
Ricca as celebrant. Inurnment will be made in the Holy Cross
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the D.J.
Jacobetti Home for Veterans Patient Activity Fund, 425 Fisher
St., Marquette, MI 49855.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation
to the staff at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans and
the staff on the Hemodialysis Unit at MGH for the many kindnesses
extended to Joe and his family.
