Marquette–––Evelyn Fay
“Ev” Bell, 95, of 205 Newberry Street, Marquette,
entered eternal life Friday evening, March 9, 2007, at the
Norlite Nursing Center, where she had resided since May
2004.
Ev was born January 29, 1912, in Ishpeming, a daughter of
William and Ida (Johnson) Nesbitt. She was raised in Marquette
and attended the Graveraet High School. In 1929, she married
John Bell and together the couple made their home and raised
their family, of eventually nine children, in Marquette.
Ev worked for several years at the former Johnson’s
Pharmacy as a clerk and pharmacists assistant, while at
the same time fulfilling her role as homemaker. She was
a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, was a Gold
Star Mother; a former member of the Marquette Women’s
Cribbage League and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Ev enjoyed baking, trying new recipes, and traveling.
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, she
is survived by two sons, Donald and Ted Bell both of Marquette;
four daughters, Shirley (Raymond) Thomas of Antioch, CA,
Janet (Rocco) Donato of Corona, CA, Nancy (William) Gorst
of Little Lake, and Susan (Charles) Voakes of Marquette;
many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Isabel
Green of Marquette; a brother, Robert (Ellie) Nesbitt of
Marquette; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to
her parents, Ev was preceded in death by her husband, John;
sons, John, James, and Daniel Bell; a very special grandson,
Larry Sult; sisters, Grace, Ruth, Marion, and Dorothy; a
brother, William Nesbitt; and brothers-in-law, Joseph Green,
Arthur Neault, and Arnold Bengtson.
Graveside services for Evelyn F. “Ev” Bell will
be held at the Park Cemetery on Wednesday, May 16, at 2:00
pm. Mrs. Bell, 95, formerly of 205 Newberry Street, Marquette,
passed away on March 9, 2007, at the Norlite Nursing Center.
An open house for family and friends will be held at the
William Gorst cottage in Little Lake following the services.
