Marquette––Richard P. “Nick”
Quayle, 54, of 2662 Montgomery Street, Marquette, entered
eternal life Wednesday morning, February 14, 2007, at Marquette
General Hospital.
Nick was born January 12, 1953, in Marquette, a son of Francis
and Charlotte E. (Gravelle) Quayle, and was a lifelong resident.
Nick was unable to complete his high school education and,
later in life, he and his two brothers, Ed “Scotty”
and Doug “Bugsy”, attended night school classes
and, together, received their diplomas in 1998. For 27 years,
Nick was employed by the City of Marquette in the Public
Works Department, retiring October 14, 2005. In retirement,
he kept busy taking up walking, trying his hand at cooking,
and relaxed watching hockey games. Nick loved the outdoors,
especially being in the woods and pursued fishing, hunting,
four wheeling, and snowmobiling with great enthusiasm. Most
of his outdoor activities took place at his camp, located
at Helen Lake, and he spent every spare moment there. Actually,
the consensus is that he spent only spare time at home.
Nick was generous and always willing to help out whenever
and wherever needed. He was known for often assisting family
and friends with snow shoveling duties. Nick was a member
of the Helen Lake Association.
Nick is survived by his wife, Jayne A. (Slavin) Quayle,
whom he married December 22, 1995; his sons, John and Paul
Quayle both of Marquette; four sisters, Charlotte (Thomas)
Waselesky of Beaver Grove, Madonna (Robert) Croschere of
Ishpeming, Bernice (William) Malmborg of Green Bay, WI,
and Lois (Robert) Durand of Harvey; four brothers, Donald
(Debbie) Quayle of Big Bay, Bernard (Mary) Quayle of AuTrain,
Douglas (Vicki) Quayle and Edward (Shari) Quayle both of
Marquette; his cousin and perpetual sidekick, Gerald (Cindy)
Dauphinais of Marquette; a brother-in-law, Frank Soulliere
of Tularosa, NM; sister-in-law, Janice (Russell) McNeal
of Maumee, OH; brothers-in-law, Jim (Lori) Slavin of Hurley,
WI, and Jack (Donna) Slavin of Santa Barbara, CA; and numerous
nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents,
Nick was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Soulliere;
and a sister-in-law, Peggy Quayle.
Friends may call at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Saturday,
February 17, beginning at 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian
Burial will follow at 2:00 pm Saturday afternoon with Rev.
Jeff Johnson as celebrant. Escorts will be Nick’s
sons, John and Paul; brothers, Donald, Bernard, Douglas,
and Edward; nephew, Joe Quayle; and special cousin and sidekick,
Gerald Dauphinais. A reception for family and friends will
follow in the church fellowship hall.
