Harvey, MI–– Carol A. Johnson,
68, of 1624 East M-28, Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday
evening, December 23, 2006, at home, in the loving and comforting
care of her family and the caregivers of Lake Superior Hospice.
Carol was born July 27, 1938 in Barrington, Illinois, a
daughter of Earl and Irma (Benson) Schaefer, was raised,
and graduated from high school in Barrington. She later
resided in Traverse City, Michigan, before moving to the
Marquette area in 1971. Locally, Carol was employed as a
hostess at the former Finlandia Restaurant, a salesclerk
at Montgomery Ward, and, prior to retiring, as a clerk at
the Holiday Cleaners. She was a member of the First Presbyterian
Church where she served as a deacon, and belonged to the
Thimbleberry quilting group at the Ben Franklin Store. In
her leisure, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, and
knitting.
A loving wife, mother, proud grandparent, and sister, she
is survived by her husband of 25 years, Russell T. Johnson;
two daughters, Christine Lynn (William) Richter of St. Charles,
IL, Terri Lee (John) Leake of Soldotna, AK, and a step-daughter,
Kris (Peter) McKirdy of Cooper City, FL; two sons, Jeffery
Scott Nannestad of Kona, HI, and Eric Jon (Mindy) Nannestad
of Marquette; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
two sisters, Janet (Phil) Stadler of London, AR, and Donna
(Jim) Kroc of Elgin, IL; four nieces and nephews, and several
cousins.
Friends may call at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday,
December 27, beginning at 2:00 pm. Funeral services will
follow at 5:00 pm, in the church, with Rev. James Robb,
pastor, officiating. Carol’s family will serve as
her escorts. A reception for family and friends will follow
in the church social hall. Inurnment will be made in the
church memorial garden in the spring.
