Harvey –James E. Youn,
85, of Harvey, entered eternal life November 10, 2006, at
his home.
Born February 3, 1921, in Marquette, a son of Wenzel S.
and Bertha (Uebrick) Youn, he was raised in Marquette.
In December 1942, he entered the US Army, serving with the
499th Bombardment Group of the 82nd Airborne. He participated
in the air offensive of Japan, the Eastern Mandates, and
served in the Western Pacific Theaters, receiving the American
Theater ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbon with three
bronze stars. He was discharged in December 1945 with the
rank of sergeant. Following military service, he moved to
California where he worked for a time, later moving to Spring
Lake where he was employed as an overhead crane operator
for Anderson-Volling Manufacturing for 28 years, retiring
in 1978. In 1976, prior to his retirement, he moved back
to the Marquette area and has resided here since that time.
He was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in
Harvey. James enjoyed music, playing the mandolin, and was
an avid basketball, baseball, and hockey fan.
Survivors include three sisters, June Lulofs and Catherine
Portoluri both of Grand Haven, and Rose (Victor) Ledvina
of Gladstone; his brother, Theodore (Virginia) Youn of Spring
Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents and a sister,
Florence Antcliff.
Honoring James’ request, no services will be scheduled.
Inurnment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
