MARQUETTE – Gary Allen Morrison, 51, of 2262 Norwood Street, Marquette, entered eternal life early Friday morning, October 13, 2006, at the ALS Group Home (Ontario House) on Norwood Street.
Gary was born September 12, 1955 in Marquette, a son of Charles O. and Rita M. (Schmeltzer) Morrison. In 1958, Gary moved to the Newberry Regional Mental Health Center in Newberry and remained there until the facility closed in 1992. He returned to Marquette, residing at Ontario House. Gary enjoyed swinging on his swing, taking long bubble baths, and eating Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Survivors include his sisters, Charmaine Morrison of Harvey and Jean Morrison of Marquette; three brothers, Ronald (Rose) Morrison of Aurora, IL, Carl (Joanne) Morrison and Roger Morrison both of Harvey; his nieces and nephews, Janet (Anthony) Lakenen, Christian (Fiancee, Stacy Checolinski) Morrison, Michael (Fiancee, Becky Borg) Morrison, Andrew Morrison, and Robert Howard; great nieces and nephews, Shannon, Samantha, and Sebastian Lakenen; his aunts, Genevieve “Genny” Gingras, Audrey Schmeltzer, and Claribel Schmeltzer all of Marquette; several cousins; and his many friends and extended family at Ontario House. Gary was preceded in death by his parents in 1987; and a brother, Michael Morrison in 1962.
Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Monday, October 16, beginning at 5:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm Monday evening in the funeral home with Rev. Lawrence Gauthier officiating. A dessert reception for family and friends will follow at the Coffee Cup. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family would like to express their appreciation to all the former and present staff at Ontario House, especially Mary O’Donnell, Tina Martin, and Kelly Laakso, and the caregivers of Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice for the many kindnesses extended to Gary and the family.
