MARQUETTE – Edna C. Johnson, 95, formerly of 1992 Bancroft Street, Marquette, and former Houghton and Dollar Bay resident, entered eternal life early Sunday morning, October 22, 2006, at the Norlite Nursing Center.
Edna was born April 19, 1911 in Hancock, a daughter of Wellington and Anne (Tibor) Washburn, and was raised in Houghton. On September 23, 1931, she married Edward S. Johnson in Houghton and, throughout the years, Edna and Edward resided in Houghton and Dollar Bay. In 1992, the couple moved to Marquette to reside with their son and his family. Prior to her retirement, Edna was employed as a sales clerk with the JC Penny Company in Houghton for many years. Edna was a former member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Dollar Bay, the church’s altar society, and the Macabees. In her leisure, Edna enjoyed making hook rugs, playing cards, especially pinochle, was an avid BINGO participant, and liked to do “Word Search” puzzles.
Survivors include her son, Gerald (Bonnie) Johnson of Marquette; daughter, Ann Bowen of Punta Gorda, FL; grandchildren, Donald (Robin) Johnson, Debi (Bob LaPlante) Hopkins, Susan (David) Morrison, Patricia (Dr. Charles) Guernsey, Donald Bowen, and special caregiver and granddaughter, Amy Byrd; six great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Johnson on March 11, 1993; and brothers, Hubert and William Washburn.
Private family services were held at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Thursday, October 26, with Rev. Frank Ricca officiating. Private inurnment will be made in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
