MARQUETTE - Betty “Boop” Ruth Livermore, 78, of 2242 Norwood Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday evening, October 11, 2006, at the ALS Group Home on Norwood Street, in the loving, compassionate care of her family and caregivers.
Born November 10, 1927 in Munising, a daughter of Walter and Ida (Perry) Livermore Sr., Betty was raised in Munising, moving to Marquette at age 17. She resided with her mother for 67 years, moving to the Norwood group home following her mother’s death. Betty came to Norwood in 1996 and adopted it as her home. Her sense of humor and chatty demeanor kept the house lively and fun, no matter what the circumstance. Betty took great pride in her room at Norwood, decorating it with plenty of stuffed animals and Betty Boop memorabilia, from whom she adopted the nickname “Betty Boop.” Above all, Betty loved the company she had among the staff at Norwood, and always seemed to have a story to tell them. Indeed, Betty made many friends among those who worked with her, including (but not limited to) group home manager, Anna Mae Johnson, whose office Betty often visited to horse around and chat. Betty’s absence will be felt throughout Norwood, and she will never be replaced. Betty was a homemaker who enjoyed working picture puzzles, riding her bicycle, working in her rock garden, and especially caring for her canine pals, Tiny and Mr. Man. She was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey.
Survivors include her sisters, Ida “Bubbles” Peterson of McFarland, Dorothy Lancour of Skandia, Sarah (Leslie) Pelto of Big Bay, Sally (Jerry) Johnson of Marquette, Bonnie Beaudry of Capistrano, CA, Mary (Richard) Raven, Darlene (Tony) D’Angelo, and Charlotte (Bartley) King all of Gwinn; two brothers, Joseph Morin and Paul (Janet) Morin both of Columbia, SC; several nieces and nephews; her special friends and caregivers, Anna Mae Johnson and Gail Herman; her extended family and friends at the Norwood home; and her canine pal, Mr. Man. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her step-father, Bernard Morin; a brother, Walter Livermore Jr; brothers-in-law, Harvey Lancour and Lloyd Peterson; a nephew, Harvey “Butch” Lancour Jr; and canine pal, Tiny.
Friends may call at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey on Saturday, October 14, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 noon with Rev. Ben Paris, pastor, as celebrant. A reception for family and friends will follow in Fr. Gauthier Hall. Burial will be made in the Northland Chapel Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Sarah Pelto, 230A County Road 550, Marquette, MI 49855, for a fund to be utilized for the developmentally disabled.
