David Emanuel Gummerus

MARQUETTE – David Emanuel Gummerus, 64, formerly of 6745 US 41 South, Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday afternoon, September 6, 2006, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
David was born December 14, 1941 in Detroit, a son of Homer E. and Dorothy M. (Fosness) Gummerus, and was raised in Southfield. He was a 1960 graduate of the Southfield High School and later served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Dearborn where he was employed with the Ford Motor Company as a boiler operator at Ford’s Rouge Complex. David enjoyed learning and had a love of reading and coin collecting. His quick wit and sense of humor was a source of entertainment for his nieces and nephews, who were often subject to his many quotes and riddles.

Survivors include his sister, Deborah Gummerus of Southfield; two brothers, John (Marianna) Gummerus of Marquette and Glen (Marsha) Gummerus of Brighton; his nieces and nephews, Amanda Gummerus, Maria (Jeff) Kilpela, Kevin (Brita) Gummerus, Brian, Lisa, Eric, James, and Allison Gummerus, Farrah (Andy) Ritter, Staci (Joe) Wadolan, and Gordie Gummerus. David was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Saturday, September 9, beginning at 10:00 am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am Saturday morning in the funeral home. Burial, with veteran’s honors, will be made in the Park Cemetery.
