Clarence Rogers

Clarence D. Rogers, 76, of 8558 W. Fourth Street, Manistique, entered eternal life Monday morning, August 28, 2006, at Marquette General Hospital, in the loving and comforting care of his family. Clarence had been hospitalized in Marquette since August 17.

Clarence was born March 10, 1930 in Supply, Arkansas, a son of George Washington and Pearl Marie (Fenton) Rogers, and was raised in Supply and Maynard, Arkansas. He left home while in his teens and traveled to various states, working at a variety of jobs. He married Margaret Elizabeth Forbing in Plymouth and together the couple made their home and raised their family in the Plymouth and Greater Detroit area. Clarence was employed as a brakeman-conductor with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad and then worked for a time at a salvage yard. On October 31, 1980, he married Myrtle Ethel (Arrowood) Stevens in Detroit and, following retirement in 1999, the couple moved to the Manistique area. Clarence was a member of the Hiawatha Country Church where he enjoyed Bible studies, singing gospel songs, and the fellowship the congregation provided. In his leisure, he enjoyed music, especially Gospel and Blue Grass Music, reading his Bible, fishing, baseball, football, gardening, and anything dealing with horses.

Survivors include:

Wife: Myrtle of Manistique

Three daughters: Margaret Rogers of Iron Mountain, Sandra (Bill) Kronner of Gwinn, and Teresa (Rodger) Prong of Westland

Five sons: Clarence (Ellen) Marevelle of Port St Lucie, FL, Ronald (Kathy) Rogers of Allen, TX, Thomas (Tina) Rogers of Gwinn, Dennis (Eva) Marvell of Derry, NH, and Michael (Kelly) Rogers of Marine City

Step-daughter: Linda Eichner of Detroit

Three step-sons: Gary (Debbie) Stevens of Boon, Jim (Lana) Stevens of Grand Rapids, and Arthur Frank (Vickie) Stevens of Norway

Numerous grand and great-grandchildren

Four sisters: Maxine Foote of Florida, Grace Hoelcher of Missouri, Myrtle (David) Carmichael of Arkansas, and Ola (Dan) Wallace of Tennessee

Numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen; and brothers, Harold, Logan, Wiley, Jack, Bill, Robert, and Blaine.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Hiawatha Country Church, M-94, Manistique, on Wednesday evening, August 30, at 6:00 pm with Pastor Paul Varoni officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church fellowship hall. Inurnment will be made in the Thompson Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Myrtle Rogers, 8558 W. Fourth Street, Manistique, MI 49854.
