June E. LaBeau, 79, of 106 Andy Way, Marquette, entered eternal life Sunday, August 27, 2006, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where she had resided since August 19.

June was born June 29, 1927 in Marquette, a daughter of Hugo and Esther (Anderson) Carlson and, soon after, the family moved to Calumet.  When June was two years old, her mother died and, at age six, she and her sisters went to live with her aunt, Judith Vadnais, in Michigamme.  There she attended the Michigamme School.  On November 21, 1942, she married Leo James LaBeau in Ishpeming and the couple settled on a farm in the North Lake Location.  In 1962 the couple moved to Skandia, later living in Gwinn then settling in Harvey.  Throughout the years, with raising her family, June was employed part-time locally as a cashier, cook, and bartender.  June was very devoted to her husband and children, and the couple was married 58 years when Leo passed away August 27, 1999.  A homemaker, June was a master seamstress, enjoyed cooking, and loved taking care of grandchildren and other children at her home.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Jylha of Negaunee and Laurie (Tim) DeShambo of Harvey; two sons,  Leo J. LeBeau Jr of Beaver Grove and Jim LaBeau of Harvey; her grandchildren, Valerie (Greg) Lukas, Jessica (Kurt) Peterson, Jim (Brenda) LaBeau Jr, Jason (Brenna) LaBeau, Elise, Faline, Lilly, and Mark Jylha Jr, Danielle, Lee, and Tim DeShambo Jr; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl “Skip” Norris of Corpus Christi, TX; her brother, Leonard Carlson of Ahmeek; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (LeRoy) Blondeau of Harvey and Lyle Tippett of Sun Lakes, AZ; brothers-in-law, George (Peggy) LaBeau of Ishpeming, Roger (Barb) LaBeau of Lake Havasu, AZ, Joseph (Roxanne) LaBeau of Overton, NV, and John Marta of Negaunee; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Carlson; a sister, Violet Halvalka; sisters-in-law, Helen Carlson, Evelyn Marta, and Lucretia Carlson; and brothers-in-law, Hallie Norris, John Halvalka, Tip Tippett, and Carl Carlson.

Friends may call at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee on Wednesday, August 30, beginning at 1:00 pm.  Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm Wednesday afternoon, in the church, with Rev. Christine Thomas-Echelbarger officiating.  A reception for family and friends will follow in the church fellowship hall.  Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
