Mary Jo Conley, 79, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and former Marquette resident, entered eternal life early Thursday morning, August 10, 2006, at her home in Milwaukee, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Conley was born May 17, 1927, in Racice, Slovenia, the first child of Joseph and Josephine (Jelenic) Stupar. She was raised in Marquette and graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in 1944. She received her nursing degree from the St. Mary’s School of Nursing, Milwaukee, in 1950. She raised her family in Marquette’s Shiras Hills before moving to Waterford, Wisconsin, and later to St. Augustine, Florida. Mrs. Conley and her husband, Dr. Donal Thayer Conley, also served as medical missionaries in Guam, Guatemala, and St. Lucia.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Donal T. Conley, MD, whom she married February 19, 1955 in Milwaukee; and a sister, Emma (Stupar) Donckers. Her surviving family members include two daughters, Robin Conley of Tampa, FL and Fey Conley of Milwaukee, WI; three sons, Donal (Jolene) Conley of Madison, WI, Brian Conley of Milwaukee, WI, and Kevin Conley of Tampa, FL; her grandchildren, Trevor (Stacia) Armes, Tara, Bridget, and Hannah Conley; great-grandchild, Dawsyn Armes; a brother, Joseph (Donna) Stupar of Milwaukee, WI; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Monday, August 14, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Monday afternoon in St. Peter Cathedral with Rev. Msgr. Louis Cappo, rector, as celebrant. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery. A dessert reception will follow in Cathedral Hall.
