Helen E. Mendis, 91, a Lake Linden resident since May of this year, entered eternal life Thursday morning, July 27, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Kathleen.

Born September 27, 1914 in St. Francis County, Missouri, a daughter of Newton Monroe and Bertha Catherine (Hahn) Whitney, Helen lived most of her life in Lower Michigan.  In 1984, she moved to Marquette, having previously resided in Florida, and moved to the Copper Country in May 2006. While residing Lower Michigan and Florida, Helen was employed as an installment loan officer.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen DeLisle of Lake Linden; her granddaughter, Jennifer Malinowski; and a great-granddaughter, Jonna Malinowski.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Mendis in 1968; and by her sister, Mary C. Laurie.

Honoring Helen’s request, no public services will be scheduled.
