Albert L. “Knutie” Lawrence, 92, of 1962 Norwood Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at his home which he shared with his daughter, Cindy and Gerald Dauphinais.
Born June 14, 1914 in Marquette, a son of John and Elsie (Boyer) Lawrence, Al was a lifelong Marquette resident. He was employed as a foreman at the former Munising Wood Products for 28 years, worked for the City of Marquette Water Department, and as a meter reader for the Marquette Board of Light and Power for 18 years, retiring in 1978. Al was an avid golfer, retiring from the sport in 2003, enjoyed bowling, and in his younger years was an enthusiastic softball participant. For many years, he served as an umpire at local softball games. Al was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church since its inception in 1954, a former member of Marquette Council 689 Knights of Columbus, and the Marquette Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include five daughters, Trudie (Arthur) Saario, Marquette, Darla (Dale) Johnson, Marquette, Lesley (James) Johnson of Munford, TN, Sue (R.J.) Wells, Gainesville, FL, and Cindy (Gerald) Dauphinais, Marquette; 17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 10 great great-grandchildren; a brother, Gale (“Chuckie”) Lawrence of Marquette; his loving companion and sister-in-law, Luella “Girlie” Sicotte, Marquette; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Rivord) Lawrence in 1995; a sister, Lenore Meyers; and brothers, Raymond, John, Paul, and Glenn Lawrence.
Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm Thursday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 21, at 12:00 noon in St. Christopher Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Johnson as celebrant. Al’s grandsons will serve as his escorts. Burial will be made in the Northland Chapel Gardens. A reception for family and friends will follow in the fellowship hall of St. Christopher Church.
