Barbara DePetro

Barbara J. DePetro, 77, of 1938 Neidhart Avenue, Marquette, entered eternal life Friday morning, June 23, 2006, at her home.

Barb was born December 27, 1928 in Seney, a daughter of Robert and Mary (Hollingshead) Kubond, and was a Marquette resident most of her life. On June 28, 1947 she married Francis C. “Chic” DePetro, and together the couple established their home and raised their family in Marquette.  Barb was self employed and the former owner of the Knit and Pearl Yarn Shop, later working at ShopKo.  She was known for her knitting skills, often making mittens and hats for her daughter’s Head Start classes.  She also enjoyed quilting and needlework.  A member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Barb was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club.

A loving and devoted mother, proud grandparent, and sister, she is survived by three daughters, Karen Vachon of Columbia, TN, Jonelle (Robert) Smith of Charleston, IL; and Barbara Dupras of Skandia; her grandchildren, Joseph (Kelly) DePetro of Phoenix, AZ, Jarrett (Sherri) Vachon of Columbia, TN, Nickolas (Cassie) Dupras of Marquette, Justin Dupras of Skandia, and Aleta Smith of Charleston, IL; a sister, Grace Gamache of Saginaw; and two brothers, Thomas (Kathleen) Kubond of Niles and Robert (Donna) Kubond of Arcadia, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barb was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis “Chic” DePetro in 2002; and two sisters, Helen Morrison and Madeline Maxwell.

Friends may call at St. Michael Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 27, beginning at 12:00 noon.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm Tuesday afternoon in the church with Rev. Msgr. Jed Patrick, pastor, as celebrant.  Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Nick and Justin Dupras, Rob Smith, and Tony DePetro.  A reception for family and friends will be held in the St. Michael Parish Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Michael Catholic Church, 401 W. Kaye Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
