Alverna Reynolds

Alverna C. “Vern” Reynolds, 92, formerly of 2249 Huron Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Sunday morning, May 7, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Cranston, RI, where she had resided for the past three years.

Born December 24, 1913 in Houghton, a daughter of Wilfred and Ida (Berry) LaMora, Vern was primarily raised by her mother and step-father, Emil Johnson, following the early death of her father.  The family moved to Marquette while Vern was a small child and she later attended Bishop Baraga High School.  On September 26, 1934 she married H. Raymond Reynolds at St. Peter Cathedral, and the couple set about establishing their home and raising a family, which would eventually include eleven children.

Vern was very family centered and enjoyed her role as homemaker.  She was known for her baking skills and also her craftwork.  Vern was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church.

A loving mother, proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, she is survived by three daughters, Catherine (Raymond) Grady of Marquette, Patricia Braga of Cranston, RI, and Joan (James) Christiansen of Holland; five sons, James Reynolds of Maumee, OH, Paul (Alice) Reynolds of Ishpeming, Alfred (Eloise) Reynolds of Rapid River, Carl (Dottie) Reynolds of Lisbon, OH, and Ronald (Cindy) Reynolds of Marquette; two daughters-in-law, Beverly Reynolds of Detroit and Gladys Reynolds of Waterloo, AL; 43 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition to her parents, Vern was preceded in death by her husband, H. Raymond Reynolds on November 5, 1994; three sons, Joseph, Frederick, and Thomas Reynolds; a son-in-law, Ronald Braga; daughter-in-law, Aurelia Reynolds; and a grandson, Timothy Grady.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Friday, May 12, beginning at 12:00 noon.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm Friday afternoon with Rev. Jeff Johnson as celebrant.  Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery with Vern’s grandsons serving as escorts.

The Fassbender Funeral home is serving the family.
