Leah Filizetti

Leah B. Filizetti, 78, of 59 Heritage Drive, Negaunee, entered eternal life Saturday evening, May 27, 2006, at the home of her daughter.

Leah was born December 27, 1927, in Negaunee, a daughter of Frank and Emma (Servant) Juchemich, was a graduate of St. Paul High School, and a lifelong resident.  She was a lifelong active member of St. Paul Catholic Church where she was a member of the former altar society, past president of the parish council, and a member of the St. Paul Concert Choir.  Over the years, Leah served as chairman of the funeral committee, where she and the church ladies served countless funeral luncheons to the community.  She was well known for being very kind and generous, but with a firm resolve for getting things done.  In her leisure, Leah enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, singing, and was an avid outdoorswoman.  She loved her family and treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren, who lovingly called her “granny.”  Over the years, Leah had traveled to Italy numerous times and was also especially proud of her rich family heritage.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Leo Filizetti; two sons, Walt Turino of Houghton and Gregory (Christine) Turino of DePere, WI; four daughters, B. Denise (John) Beauchamp of Skandia, Rene` (Hugo) Lehto of Aura, Vicki (John) Haupt of Ishpeming, Michelle (Dave Paquette) Collick of Negaunee; three step-children, Chris (Colleen) Filizetti and Dorien (Norman) Howe both of Negaunee, and Rebecca (Michael) Steele residing in California; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Juchemich of Ishpeming; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Leah was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Beryl Turino in 1969; six brothers and five sisters.

Friends may call at St. Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 31, beginning at 3:00 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5:00 pm with Rev. John Shiverski and Rev. John Martignon, concelebrating.  A reception for family and friends will follow in the parish hall. 

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Anthony and Vincent Maki, Samuel, Matthew, and Andrew Beauchamp, Terry and Beryl Turino, Chad Filizetti, and Randy Howe. Burial will be made in the Northland Chapel Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Memorial Fund in Leah’s name.
