L. Robert “Bob” Boyer, 76, of 1616 Wilkinson Avenue, Marquette, entered eternal life early Sunday morning, May 28, 2006, at Marquette General Hospital.
Born Louis Robert Boyer on August 11, 1929 in Marquette, the son of Louis J. and Pearl (Bassler) Boyer, Bob was a lifelong Marquette resident. He was a graduate of the Bishop Baraga High School, Class of 1947. On June 12, 1954 he married Donna M. Nevala at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marquette, and together the couple established their home and raised their family in Marquette. Prior to marriage, Bob was employed with the College Laundry and Cleaners, an employment that would continue for over forty years, during most of which he served as deliveryman for the company. During the last ten years, prior to retirement in 1991, Bob and wife, Donna, owned and operated the business. In 2004, Bob and Donna celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and were honored during the 50th Jubilee celebration of St. Christopher Parish.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying all that nature had to offer. He was a member of the National Audubon Society and took great pleasure in watching and feeding the birds. He was also a member of the Negaunee Rod and Gun Club and Mid-UP Shooters where he often practiced his clay target shooting skills. Bob enjoyed hunting at all levels, fishing, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling. A member of the former St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Bob was currently a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church where he was actively involved in St. Christopher Council #13333 Knights of Columbus, St. Christopher Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, and took part in helping with the parish pasty sales and fish bakes. He also did volunteer work with the Special Olympics.
Bob is survived by his wife, Donna; a daughter, Christine M. (Christopher) Johnson; and son, Michael Robert Boyer both of Marquette; his grandchildren, Danielle Boyer, Jessica, Tonii, and Olivia Mattocks, and soon to be expected infant grandson, Donovan Johnson; his sister, Beatrice Stone of Marquette; sisters-in-law, Nancy Booker of Orlando, FL and Francine (James) Hemmila of Negaunee; and brother-in-law, Mickey (Gail) Nevala of Marquette; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 31, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Jeff Johnson as celebrant. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wally Bruce, Don Beaudoin, Fred Donckers, John Brady, Jere Stafford, Bob Mathews, Robert Marlowe, John Kuhn, and Deloyd Cousineau.
Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Christopher Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 2372 Badger, Marquette, MI 49855.
