Leon Bancroft, 73, of Marquette, and former Gulliver resident, entered eternal life early Tuesday morning, May 2, 2006, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, where he had resided since 1998.
Leon was born October 17, 1925 in Manistique, a son of Emery and Sara (Letson) Bancroft, and was raised in Manistique. He was employed with the State of Michigan Fish Hatchery, Manistique Division, for a time. Leon then moved to the Marquette area where he was self-employed as a logger for many years, owning his own business, later on moving to Gulliver to reside. An avid outdoorsman, Leon enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and oil painting. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda (Leon) LaFond, Cindy (Bob) Poirier, Sheila Bancroft, and Ann Bancroft; three sons, Leon (Barbara) Bancroft Jr, Leonard Bancroft, and Sheldon (Brenda) Bancroft; six grandchildren; a brother, Cletus Bancroft; and several nieces and nephews. Leon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie Bancroft in 1999; and a sister, Shirley Guay.
Private family services will be held at the Fassbender Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Jarvis, Marquette General Hospital chaplain, officiating.
Burial will be made in the Northland Chapel Gardens.
