Charles W. “Bill” Kuhn, 85, of 745 Cedar Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday morning, April 13, 2006, at Marquette General Hospital. He had been in ill health for the past two months.
Born April 12, 1921 in Marquette, a son of Charles F. and Hazel (Murphy) Kuhn, Bill attended the Bishop Baraga High School and was a lifelong resident. On November 27, 1948 he married Elvira A. DeMarinis at St. Michael Church and together the couple established their home and raised their family in Marquette. He was employed for 56 years as a plant foreman at the former Marquette Bottling Works, retiring in 1991. Bill was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army for three and half years. An active member of St. Michael Church, he served as an usher at the 8:30 am mass for many years. He was also a life member of Marquette Elks Lodge #405 B.P.O.E. In his leisure, Bill enjoyed playing the drums and listening to the music of the big bands.
Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elvira “Babe” Kuhn; four sons, Larry (Cindy) Kuhn, Robert (Liz) Kuhn, James Kuhn and his friend, Diane, of Marquette, and Daniel (Mary Ellen) Kuhn of San Marcos, CA; his grandchildren, Jamie (Sahl) Metievier, Christy (Joe) Negrinelli, Jason Kuhn, Lisa Kuhn, Dorothy Kuhn, and Georgietta Kuhn; a sister, Evelyn Greenleaf of Marquette; brother, John (Elaine) Kuhn of Big Bay; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Shaw; and a brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Doris Kuhn.
Friends may call at St. Michael Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 18, beginning at 2:00 pm. The Marquette Elks Lodge will conduct their memorial ritual at 3:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm with Rev. Msgr. Jed Patrick, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Kuhn, Neil Greenleaf, Tony DePetro, Harold Newport, Donald Dupras, and Roger DePetro.
