Stanley P. “Dunk” Kivi, 67, of 529 Lost Creek Drive, Marquette, entered eternal life Sunday evening, April 30, 2006, at Marquette General Hospital, where he had been a patient since Friday evening.

Stan was born January 15, 1939 in Marquette, a son of Victor A. and Mamie E. (Gustafson) Kivi.  He was raised in the Harvey-Marquette area and attended the Graveraet High School.  For most of his life, Stan was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry, beginning his employment in local road construction projects.  He later moved downstate where he was employed for several years, returning to this area 20 years ago.  In the early 1960’s, Stan was well-known as one of the premiere softball players in the area.  His softball abilities, especially his pitching, were the highlight of many games and tournaments.  Additionally, Stan was also an avid Red Wing Hockey fan.

Survivors include his daughters, Robyn Miller of Gwinn, Carmen (Roy) Asplet of Harvey, and Kelly (Curt) Conklin of Gwinn; a daughter-in-law, Lauri Kivi of Little Lake; his grandchildren, Jesse Stark, Elizabeth (Joseph) Barrett, Sierra Miller, Rochelle Johnnyjohn, Whitney Kivi, and Amanda Kurian; great-grandchildren, Austin Conary, Kadence Barrett, Cameron Hoffmeyer, Jordan Matchett, and Mariyah Jo Willis; his mother, Mamie Niemi of Gwinn; a sister, Kathy (Allen) Garrow of Gwinn; six brothers, Ralph Kivi of Gwinn, Duane (Joan) Kivi of Marquette, Len (Judy) Kivi of Alexandria, VA, Jerry (Pauline) Kivi of Harvey, Roger Kivi of Harvey, and Garry (Donna Christianson) Kivi of Woodbridge, VA; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Stan was preceded in death by his father, Victor A. Kivi; a son, Kevin Kivi; sister-in-law, Gloria Kivi; and a grandson, Kyle Kivi.

Honoring Stanley’s request, private family services will be held at a later date.
