Dorothy J. “Sis” Carrier, 78, of 222 S. Fifth Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday evening, April 19, 2006, at the Norlite Nursing Center, in the comforting care of her family.
Born December 6, 1927 in West Branch Township, daughter of Peter and Josephine (Dupras) Blondeau, Dorothy was raised in the Marquette area. She graduated from the Graveraet High School and Northern Normal (now NMU). On February 23, 1952 she married Frank W. Carrier. Throughout the years, Dorothy was employed as a teller with the former First National Bank and Trust Company, a pharmaceutical assistant at Bell Pharmacy in the medical center, organized the lending library at the Alzheimer’s Association, worked as a clerk at Goodwill, and as a home health care aide and caregiver for many years. Following retirement, she often enjoyed helping out at her son, Dale’s business, Second Nature Canvas and Upholstery. Dorothy’s family was her life, and she always remained close to them, treasuring time spent with her children and grandchildren. In her leisure, she also enjoyed sewing and playing cards. She was a member of St. Peter Cathedral and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Dorothy volunteered at the Marquette Senior Center and, because of her passion for reading and love of books, was responsible for the reorganization of the library at Snowberry Heights.
Survivors include two daughters, Annette Carrier of Streetsboro, OH and Rosalie (Daniel) Rabine of Eben Junction; three sons, Dean (Sonia) Carrier of Jefferson, MD, Dale (Luann) Carrier of Marquette, and Timothy Carrier of Midvale, OH; nine grandchildren, Matthew and Paul Carrier, Lisa (Brian) Harris, Dustin and Megan Rabine, Dawn Marie and Christopher Haines, Lindsey and Mandy Carrier; a great-grandson, Eann Harris; her brother, Leonard (Lois) Blondeau of Skandia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Carrier in 1972; and a brother, Louis Blondeau.
A gathering of family and friends, in celebration of Dorothy’s life, will be held on Friday afternoon, April 21, from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at 146 Lakewood Lane, Harvey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lake Superior Hospice Association, 326 N. Front Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
