Almen H. “Bompe” Pederson, 89, of 201 Cherry Creed Road, Harvey, and former Shelter Bay resident, entered eternal life Monday morning, March 27, 2006, at Marquette General Hospital.
Al was born August 1, 1916 in Sheldrick of Whitefish Township, a son of Alfred and Olive (Clark) Pederson, and was raised in Grand Marais and Big Bay where his father was lighthouse keeper. On August 15, 1942 he married Lillian B. “Bubbles” Cline in Marquette and the couple soon moved to California where they resided for over 30 years. In California, Al was employed as a carpenter, mainly in home construction. The couple returned to this area in 1979 and lived in Shelter Bay for ten years, where they operated and managed the Shelter Bay Grocery for a time. Following Lillian’s death in 2001, Al moved to Arizona where he relished the warm weather and enjoyed the sun. Last September, he returned to Harvey and took up residence at Cherry Creek Village. Al never really retired, and always enjoyed building and remodeling homes, creating furniture, and helping family and friends with their home projects. He possessed a great love of music and was an accomplished accordion and guitar player. Al always had time for his many grandkids and was fondly honored with the title, “Bompe”.
