George Schroeder, Jr.

Died February 11, 2006

George Hugo Schroeder, Jr, 74, former Jackson resident, entered eternal life Saturday morning, February 11, 2006, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, where he had resided since March 1999.

George was born July 16, 1931 in Sheboygan, WI, a son of George H. and Erna (Ziller) Schroeder, Sr, and moved with his parents several times in his youth, attending high school in Chicago.  He entered the US Marine Corps in 1952, serving during the Korean Conflict, and has honorably discharged in 1954 with the rank of Corporal.  On September 30, 1963 he married the former Helen J. Jarvie in Jackson.  For many years, George was employed as parts manager at Automotive Services, retiring due to ill health. 

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Helen, of Jackson and Brimley; two sons, Robert (Deanna) Ekin of Jackson and Walter (Lorie) Schroeder of Thomasville, GA; five grandchildren, BJ, Jeff (Sandy), and Laurel Ekin and Paige Schroeder of Jackson, and Stephen Schroeder of Thomasville, GA; a brother, Ed (Carol) Schroeder of Iron River; and a sister, Ellen (Al) Torrone of Indiana.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a grandson, David Ekin; brother, Harry; and best friend and Jackson firefighter, Norm Creiger.

No services will be scheduled at this time.  A gathering of family and friends will take place this summer at the convenience of the family.
