Udorabel Nutt

Udorabel “Dorie” Nutt, 75, of 420 Green Bay Street, Harvey, entered eternal life Friday morning, February 24, 2006, at her home.

Dorie was born October 22, 1930 in Marble Head, near Manistique, a daughter of Anthony and Dorothea (Rogers) Paquin. Her father was a logger, and she was raised in various logging camps in the Munising area, and later attended the Eben High School. For five years she was employed with AC Sparkplug in Flint, before returning to the Marquette area. Locally, she worked as a housekeeper at Wahlstrom’s Parkway Motel and later in food service at Wahlstrom’s Restaurant. On May 25, 1961 she married Walter N. Nutt, Jr in Marquette. Walter was then serving in the US Air Force, stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, and for the next 16 years the couple traveled to several assignments around the country. They returned to reside in the Marquette area in 1990.

Dorie was very devoted to her children and grandchildren, and in her leisure enjoyed collecting stuffed animals, going to the casino, collecting Indian relics, and participating in BINGO. She was a Tribal Elder of the Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Survivors include:

Her husband of 44 years, Walter N. Nutt, Jr

Two daughters: Edie (Kirk) Toutant of Gwinn and Dorothea Scott and companion, Dave King of Parrish, FL

Three sons: Walter W. Nutt of Lawrence, KS; Stewart Yokeum and companion; Diane Mahaffey of Harvey; and Walter N. Nutt III and companion, Marilyn Hendrickson of Harvey

Eight grandchildren: Brian, Leanna, and John Frederick Horton, Kelly and Travis Yokeum, Krissy Olivera, Theresa and Jeremy Nutt

Several great-grandchildren

Two brothers: Gary (Donna) Paquin of Grand Rapids and Raymond Byers of Marquette

Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Dorie was preceded in death by a son, John Frederick Yokeum; a sister, Shirley Dienst; and brothers, Lester and Jack Byers, and James Smithson.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Thursday, March 2, beginning at 1:00 pm. A Service of Remembrance will follow at 4:00 pm Thursday afternoon with Rev. Leon Jarvis, Marquette General Hospital chaplain, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
