Grace Hurdelbrink

Grace Harriet Hurdelbrink, 90, formerly of Brookridge Heights Assisted Living, Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday morning, February 14, 2006, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.

Born August 19, 1915 in Twin Valley, Minnesota, a daughter of Henning and Gida (Gullingsrud) Grutle, Grace was raised in Twin Valley.  She graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1933 and entered North Dakota State University, receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1937. Grace met her future husband, Burl H. Hurdelbrink, in Sherwood, ND during one of her first teaching assignments and, on January 14, 1941, she and Burl were married in Twin Valley.  The couple resided in Grand Forks, ND, where Burl was employed by the railroad, Grace assisted her husband and found teaching assignments wherever he was stationed.  For over 25 years Grace taught Home Economics, mainly in Lansford, North Dakota, retiring in 1970.  In 1972 she and Burl moved to Minneapolis where Burl was transferred with the railroad.  He preceded her in death on February 22, 1973.  In March of 2000 Grace moved to the Marquette, Michigan, to be near her daughter.  Grace was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley and currently a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marquette.  Throughout the years she enjoyed performing volunteer work at Calvary Lutheran Church and with the Senior Citizens group in Golden Valley.  She also enjoyed reading.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia L. (Dennis) Honch of Marquette and Mary Jane (Art) Hoffman of Cincinnati, OH; her grandchildren, Todd J. Honch of Marquette, Peter (Pia) Hoffman of Horsens, Denmark, Kathy A. (Sean) Cassidy of Lawrenceville, GA, and Kristin A. Hoffman of Cincinnati, OH; great-grandchildren, Jacob Allen and Sara Ann Hoffman and Nicolas John and Emily Grace Cassidy; a sister, Luella Reininger of Golden Valley, MN; a sister-in-law, Virginia Grutle of Fergus Falls, MN; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, Grace was preceded in death by a brother, Reinert O. M. Grutle and a brother-in-law, Gordon Reininger.

A memorial and burial service will be held on Thursday, June 29, at 4:00 pm, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansford, ND.
