John Daniel (Kantor) Canter, 71, former Greenville, PA, resident, died Friday evening, February 3, 2006, at the Nugent Convalescent Home in Hermitage, PA.
John was born May 7, 1934 in Sharpsville, PA, a son of Michael and Thelma (Cole) Canter. He was employed for 42 years as an electrician with the Shenango Steel Company in Sharpsville, retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Church of Christ in New Hamburg, a social member of the Reynolds VFW, and in his leisure enjoyed vegetable gardening.
John is survived by three daughters, Melissa Wilt of Monroe, MI, Bridget (Michael) Holm of Marquette, MI, and Rebecca (John) Dmytrusz of Lincoln Park, MI; a son, John M. Canter of Sharon, PA; two granddaughters, Heather (Brian) Shinault of Monroe, MI and Kayla Dmytrusz of Lincoln Park, MI; grandson, Kyler C.L. Gose of Monroe, MI; great-granddaughters, Sarah Privatere and Johnna Shinault of Monroe, MI; a sister, Virginia (Jim) Roberts of Topeka, KS; step-brother, Peter (Mary Ann) Hill of Sharpsville, PA; step-sister, Emma Sparry of Mercer, PA; sister-in-law, Helen Canter of Hermitage, PA; his former wife, Darleen Canter of Marquette, MI; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Canter; and two infant sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 16, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home in Sharon, PA, at 1:30 pm with Rev. Douglas Garland officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the West Side Cemetery.
