Beatrice Irene Johnson, 86, of 530 W. Ridge Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at Marquette General Hospital, where she had hospitalized for the past week.
Beatrice was born October 20, 1919 in Keokuk, Iowa, a daughter of Ernest and Beatrice (Lempkey) Connor, and came to Marquette as a child. She was a graduate of the Graveraet High School. Beatrice married Vaino Johnson on August 1, 1942, and for over 20 years was employed as a cook at Northern Michigan University. Beatrice was a member of First United Methodist Church, Marquette, and formerly belonged to a sewing circle and a bowling team. In her leisure, Beatrice greatly enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, playing cards, Yahtzee, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.
Beatrice is survived by:
One daughter: DiAnne (Nick) Linna of Ishpeming
One son: Larry Johnson of Munising
Two grandchildren: Danielle and Nick Linna of Ishpeming
Several nieces and nephews;
Best friend: Toni Moon of Marquette.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vaino Johnson; two brothers, Ernest and Fred; and her sister, Amy.
Funeral services for Beatrice will be held on Friday, December 23, at the First United Methodist Church, Marquette, at 11:00am with Rev. Elbert Dulworth officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery.
