Lauri Liljeroos

Lauri A. Liljeroos, 87, formerly of 2283 Beaudoin Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday morning, November 5, 2005, at the D. J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

Born November 15, 1917 in Alpha, a son of Armas and Jenny (Ellis) Liljeroos, Lauri was raised in the Covington area. He worked for a time in the Civilian Conservation Corps camps before entering the US Army in 1941. He served with the 442nd Signal Battalion during World War II and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, American Theater and American Defense Service Medals, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, and five Overseas Service Bars. Lauri was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Technician Fourth Grade. On December 3, 1949, Lauri married Anna Mae LaTourneau in Marquette and the couple began to establish their home and raise a family. Through the years, he was employed at the former Cliff Dow Chemical plant and then worked for the Alger-Marquette Community Action Board (AMCAB) as a driver. He and Anna were actively involved in volunteering their time and talent with the Salvation Army. Lauri was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and all that nature could provide. He was a member of the Salvation Army and a life member of VFW Post #2439 of Marquette.

Survivors include:

Daughter: Linda Mae (Michael) King of Gwinn

Five sons: James Liljeroos of Republic; Scott Liljeroos of Negaunee; Lyle, Dale (Kris), and Roger Liljeroos all of Marquette

Son-in-law: David Tellefsen of Gwinn

Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Three sisters: Ann Kauppila and Shirley (Ed) Dauphinais both of Marquette, and Sarah LaPointe of Negaunee

Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Lauri was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Liljeroos; a son, Lauri Allen Liljeroos; daughter, Cheryl Ann Tellefsen; stillborn infant daughters, Roxanne and Violet Liljeroos; three sisters, Mae Hokenson, Ruth Mahaffey, and Ellen LeMire; and a brother, Reuben Liljeroos.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 8, beginning at 11:00 am. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm Tuesday afternoon in the funeral home with Captain David Daugherty of the Salvation Army officiating. Lauri’s eulogy will be given by his niece, retired Captain Christine LaTourneau. Burial will be made in the Northland Chapel Gardens with Scott Liljeroos, James Liljeroos, Michael King, David Tellefsen Sr, David Tellefsen Jr, and Timothy Tellefsen serving as pallbearers.

A reception for family and friends will be held at the Salvation Army.
