Hazel M. Bussiere
Resided in Marquette, MI
Died November 9, 2005

Hazel M. Bussiere, 94, of 1843 Heikkala Drive, Marquette, entered eternal life on November 9, 2005, at home, in the presence of loved ones. She was born September 24, 1911, the fifth of twelve children born to Adelore and Eva LaFreniere of North Lake Location in Ishpeming.

Throughout her life Hazel adhered to a strong work ethic. At age 19, she was employed as a nanny to the children of the Hyde family in Ishpeming, traveling with them to Vermont in the summers, and to Florida in the winter. She worked at the Gossard factory before her marriage to William Bussiere in 1933. She also worked for many years in the dining room of the Mather Inn.

Hazel was a loving care-giver for all of her life, with an amazing generosity, and a bright humor.
She was a good cook and baker, and we all looked forward to her French pork pies at Christmas.
She enjoyed sewing, crafts, word games, reading, and travel, and rides to the Island with her Bill.  Hazel had a wide circle of life-long friends. Among them were members of a club begun in North
Lake in the 1930's, and continuing into recent years.

She traveled with family to France, Germany, and Sweden in 1988, and with a friend to China in 1986, at 75 years of age. She spent several winters with family in Arizona, and this year visited with grandchildren in Arizona and Maryland.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; a son-in-law, Nicholas Valenti; her sisters, Ermaline Wilson, Irene Brown, Helen Gorst, Gloria Keni, and Leona Grant; her brothers, Adelore "Pat", Leo, Lawrence, Julius, and Paul.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Valenti, Susan (Paul) Blomgren; a sister, Barbara Strongman; grandchildren, Michael Sarasin, Susan (David) Reidy, David (Betty) Sarasin, Chantelle (Dan) Beckman, Samuel (Christi) Sarasin, Sheree (Paul) Firth, Nick (Ginger) Valenti, Doug (Terri) Valenti, Franz Erik (Cindy) Blomgren, Brigitte (Matt) Stark, and Thomas (Karen) Blomgren; and 16 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Patricia LaFreniere; and special friends, Jerrie Grobar and Mary Ely.

Hazel was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and Altar Society.
The family wishes to thank Dr. William Short and the U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Due to construction at St. Michael Church, friends may call at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Saturday, November 12, beginning at 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at
1:00 pm Saturday afternoon in the church with Rev. Msgr. Jed Patrick as celebrant. Hazel’s grandchildren will serve as her escorts. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be made in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
