John Hetherington

John J. “Jack” Hetherington, Jr., 81, of 201 Cherry Creek Road, Harvey, entered eternal life Sunday afternoon, October 16, 2005, at the Norlite Nursing Center, where he had resided since February of 2003.

Jack was born June 30, 1924 in Bessemer, a son of John J. and Blanch M. (Hetherington) Hetherington, and came to Marquette in 1936. He was a 1943 graduate of the Graveraet High School and, following graduation, entered the US Navy. Jack served with the US Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of Ship’s Cook Third Class. Throughout the years, Jack held a variety of employments, working as an actor in New York, managing the Aster Hotel in Milwaukee, WI, and working as a supervisor at the First Federal Savings and Loan in St. Petersburg, FL. He returned to the Marquette area in 1986. Jack was a member of St. James the Less Episcopal Church in Harvey and a former member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC. In his leisure, Jack enjoyed music and gardening.

Sister-in-law: Mary J. Hetherington of Fresno, CA

Three nieces: Mary Ann (John) Frantom of Saginaw; Linda (Charles) Dotson of Fresno, CA; Wendy (Louis) Gennuso of Clovis, CA

Three nephews: Gary (Phyllis) Hetherington of DeWitt; Kenneth (Lorrie) Hetherington of Fort Worth, TX; Rick (Stephanie) Hetherington of Clovis, CA

Great nieces: Jill, Gina, and Katy Hetherington, Julie (Greg) Stone, Karrie and Ashlee Dotson

Great nephews: Andrew (Shelley) Frantom, Michael (Kim) Hetherington, Geoffrey (Shara) Hetherington, Scott Dotson, John (Athenia) Hetherington, Mark Hetherington, Louis, John, and Neil Gennuso, Matthew Bryant

Several great great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Francis Hetherington; a sister-in-law, Mary L. Hetherington; a niece, Lori Landry; and a great nephew, Joshua Bryant.

A memorial service will be held at St. James the Less Episcopal Church in Harvey on Wednesday evening, October 19, at 7:00 pm, with Bishop James Kelsey presiding.

Inurnment will be made with his parents at Calvary Episcopal Church, Fletcher, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army, 1009 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
