Melvin K. “Mel” Parker, 67, of 6 Silver Creek Drive, Harvey, entered eternal life Saturday, July 2, 2005, at his camp in Big Bay.
Mel was born January 30, 1938 in Marquette, a son of Delbert and Mildred (Lenore) Parker, and was a 1956 graduate of the Graveraet High School. For over 30 years Mel was employed as a bricklayer through Bricklayers and Allied Craftsworkers-Local 6, the majority of his career spent working with Arnold Construction, prior to retirement. In his leisure, Mel greatly enjoyed spending time at his camp, “Mel’s Mountain,” in Big Bay, hunting, and fishing.
Mel is survived by his wife, Delores J. (Dale) Parker, whom he married September 3, 1966; two sons, Dean (Novella) Parker of Newberry and Brian Parker of Gwinn; his grandchildren, Katie, Krysta, and Rylen Parker; three sisters, Sandy (Rod) Runion and Mary Johnson both of Marquette, and Joan White residing in California; four brothers, Ed (Hilda) Parker residing in Virginia, Joe Parker, Dale “Mike” (Dolores) Parker, and Leonard Parker all of Marquette; and several nieces and nephews. Mel was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Rose Pleaugh and Betty Staggs.
A gathering and time for sharing memories of Mel will be held on Wednesday, July 6, at the family home, 6 Silver Creek Drive, Harvey, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm.
