Dan Owen Libby, 56, of E732 Diffin Road, Trenary, entered eternal life early Tuesday morning, July 26, 2005, at his camp at Ostrander Lake in Schoolcraft County. Dan had been in ill health for the past seven months.

Dan was born June 2, 1949 in Marquette, a son of Ira and Verna (Lindeblad) Libby, and was raised in Skandia and Harvey. He was a 1967 graduate of the Marquette Senior High School and, following graduation, embarked on a career as a miner, working for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as an underground miner at the Republic Mine. He later worked in the open pit mining operation at the Empire Mine. Dan retired in July 2002 after more than 33 years in mining. An avid outdoorsman, Dan greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and riding his Harley.

His mother, Verna Libby of Tendercare Health Center in Munising

His friend and caregiver, Elicia Herkert of Trenary

Two brothers, Gary (Terri) Libby of Bloomington, IN, and Mark Libby residing in Maine

An aunt, Louise Stenrose

An uncle, Leslie Libby.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, Ira Libby; and a sister, Julie Libby.

A gathering for family and friends will be scheduled at a later date.
