Esther H. Remington, 77, of 222 S. Fifth Street, Marquette, entered eternal life early Sunday morning, June 26, 2005, at her home, in the comforting care of her family and the caregivers of Lake Superior Hospice.

Born August 5, 1927 in Republic, a daughter of Victor and Tynne (Seepa) Wuokko, Esther was raised in the Republic area. In 1947 she married Wallace “Wally” Remington, Sr and moved to the Halfway Location, near Big Bay, where they lived for 50 years. Esther was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed playing BINGO, collecting knick-knacks of all types, and solving crossword puzzles. Esther was an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and its women’s circles.

She is survived by:

Four sons, Robert Remington Sr of Big Bay, John (Carolyn) Remington of Green Bay, WI, Wallace Remington Jr of Ishpeming, and Mark (Lisa) Remington of Marquette

Four daughters, Betty (Floyd) Sommers of Marquette, Brenda Falkowski of Ann Arbor, Wanda (Clayton) LaMere of Marquette, and Diane Pascoe of Ishpeming

Nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren

Two brothers, George (Darlene) Wuokko of Marquette and Roger (Jeanette) Wuokko of Republic

Two sisters, Aili Nummikoski of Holland and Shirley (Robert) Johnson of Negaunee

Several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wallace Remington Sr; a son, Lloyd A. “Lefty” Remington; three brothers, John, Reino, and William Wuokko; seven sisters, Elsa Ahtonen, Bertha Kerkela, Lillie Wuokko, Elma Laitinen, Elvie Wilson, Elaine St. Andre, and Nancy Wuokko.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 29, beginning at 3:30 pm. Funeral services will follow at 5:30 pm in the funeral home with Rev. Paul Weber, pastor of the Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the fellowship hall at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be made in the Powell Township Cemetery, Big Bay.
