Richard Morse

Died June 16, 2005

Richard V. “Dick” Morse, 76, of N3530 County Road 550, Big Bay, entered eternal life Thursday morning, June 16, 2005, at Marquette General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He had been hospitalized for the past week.

Born August 18, 1928 in Pontiac, a son of Richard G. and Mary E. (Teeples) Morse, Dick was raised in Pontiac and attended the Pontiac School System. He entered the US Army, serving during World War II and then re-enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On August 28, 1959 he married Barbara Jean Kasten and the couple resided in Pontiac and Clarkston for a time before moving to Big Bay in 1960. In Big Bay, Dick was employed for many years as a security guard for the Huron Mountain Club. An avid outdoorsman, Dick greatly enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting, and was a devoted fisherman. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the North American Hunter’s Association, Richard Jopling Post #44 of the American Legion, and the American Association of Retired Persons.

His wife of 46 years, Barbara Jean Morse

Three sisters, Geraldine (Donald) Setterlane of Waterford; Virginia (Ray) Hampshire of Fullerton, CA and Mary Ellen Cox of Rochester

Three brothers, Kenneth Morse of Rose City; Robert (Jeanette) Morse of Clarkston and Jim (Jeri) Morse of Bossier City, LA

A sister-in-law, Geanie Morse of Clarkston

Several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Craven; brother, Bill Morse; a sister-in-law, Elva Jean Morse; and a brother-in-law, Jack Craven.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 30, beginning at 10:00 am. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Steve Hulke, officiating. A dessert luncheon for family and friends will follow in the church fellowship hall.

The Fassbender Funeral Home is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to local hospice associations.
