Phillip “Hippo” Morris, 62, of 1120 Adams Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday evening, June 16, 2005, at Marquette General Hospital.

Born March 9, 1943 in Marquette, the son of William and Mary (Wheeler) Morris, Phillip was raised in South Marquette and was a graduate of the Graveraet High School class of 1961. He entered the US Navy and served aboard a minesweeper, as a radar technician, during the Vietnam Era. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Marquette and raised a family, working as an electrician through Electricians Union Local #1070.

He was a member of the Richard Jopling Post #44 of the American Legion and Marquette Elks Lodge #405 B.P.O.E. His hobbies included playing pool, golfing, camping, and playing cribbage.

Survivors include:
Two sons, Phillip Morris Jr of Indiana and Michael Morris of Alaska

Three daughters, Kristina Morris and fiancée, Andy Allan of Marquette, Michelle Hult of Marquette, and Brenda (Paul) Reynolds of Ishpeming

Five grandchildren, Michael Morris, Tim and Tony Hult, Emilee and Madison Reynolds

One brother, Mike (Joanne) Morris of Washington

One uncle, Mitchell “Mike” Morris of Marquette; several nieces and nephews; and many close, personal friends who will miss his presence.

In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Ellen Tyser. There will only be one “Hippo”, may he rest in peace.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Monday, June 20, beginning at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm Monday evening in the funeral home with Rev. Lawrence Gauthier officiating. Graveside inurnment services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, at 3:00 pm at the Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception and a time for sharing memories of Phillip will be held at the American Legion following graveside services.
